New Works is thrilled to partner with The Cultch and SFU School for the Contemporary Arts to present a unique masterclass with Emmanuelle Lê Phan and Elon Höglund, artistic directors and co-founders of Tentacle Tribe.
Emmanuelle and Elon have drawn from their experiences as professional dancers (Cirque Du Soleil, Cirque Éloize, Rubberbandance, Bboyizm) to develop a method that fuses various movement philosophies and techniques.
Here is what they have to say about this masterclass!
Through the workshop, we’ll practice certain concepts that can be found in breaking and popping while using a contemporary approach. We aim to diversify our movement vocabulary while elevating our notion of the body and our consciousness of movement. Whether it be upright, on the floor, upside down, counterbalancing, or with a partner, we’ll explore our body’s capacity using harmony and geometry.
What to bring: Comfortable dance clothes and water bottle (refill stations available near the studio).
*Knee pads, a toque and shoes are recommended.*
This event precedes the Vancouver premiere of Tentacle Tribe’s GHOST, co-presented by New Works and The Cultch, February 12-15, 2020.
