Values
We believe that...
- Dance should be accessible. That the art of dance should not be confined to lofty stages. That dance should be available to all audiences and that it should be of exceptional quality, but never elitist.
- That the labels “free” and “affordable” do not diminish the quality of a performance. That monetary value does not ascribe cultural value.
- That dance is about the human form in space. It is the expression of our hopes, desires, fears and feelings through movement.
- That dance is powerful. That it can entertain and inspire. That it can enhance people’s lives by providing an momentary escape or a new way to understand the world.
- That the cultures of the world live within our city and that each brings dance traditions that should be shared and experimented with.
- That the depth of knowledge and experience that we have amassed by working with and mentoring artists over 17 years needs to be shared, disseminated and put to practical use.
- That working together is often more fruitful than working apart and that listening is more effective than telling.
