Joe Ink
Understanding that movement is a language that can communicate things our words cannot, Joe Ink creates new physical vocabulary to delight and inspire.
Led by Artistic Director, Joe Laughlin, Joe Ink was founded in 1995 and has built a reputation for its versatility; creating provocative, witty and lyrical work. Described as “wickedly sophisticated,” “unusual,” and “daring,” this Vancouver dance company speaks in a movement language all its own.
Artistic excellence and generosity of spirit permeate all of Joe Ink’s activities. The company’s mission is to inspire, empower and motivate people through the medium of dance, pushing the edge creatively and artistically as professional artists while also strengthening community through dance.
Joe Ink has created over twenty works, balancing local performances and projects in partnership with national and international artists and organizations. For more than 10 years, Joe Ink and has produced public performances in the context of the community-based dance program, Move it!
Relationship with New Works
New Works has had a long-term ongoing relationship with Joe Ink over the years. As a close colleague of New Works’ founder, Barb Clausen, Joe Laughlin was amongst the first artists in New Works’ diverse roster. New Works helped transition Joe Ink to independent management in 2003, when New Works was focused primarily on presentation activity. In 2009, following a strategic shift in the company’s activities, Joe Ink returned to the New Works fold.
