Out Innerspace
Two young artists expanding the definition of contemporary dance and building a new generation of dance artists and audiences.
Out Innerspace Dance Theatre and Film Society creates contemporary dance and dance on screen works with integrity and artistry. The company is determined to be innovative, yet accessible and to push beyond traditional aesthetics and forms with unreserved ingenuity.
Artistic Directors David Raymond and Tiffany Tregarthen’s creative partnership spans six years, throughout which their contrasting physical forms and backgrounds have inspired their goals and visions. They are part of a new and dynamic generation of artists that are embracing multi-media and interdisciplinary work to push the preconceptions of what dance is and what it can communicate; encouraging a larger audience’s appetite and appreciation for dance and performance.
In addition to the creation of professional dance work, Out Innerspace formed the education initiative Modus Operandi in 2007. This training program was created to foster a group of diverse, eager and intelligent young artists devoted to Canadian contemporary dance. David and Tiffany developed a platform that could connect these young dancers with the resources, projects and professional mentors needed to help them reach their potential as the next generation of professional dance artists.
Relationship with New Works
Out Innerspace joined New Works in 2009, reaching a point in their development where they needed administrative support for their education initiative, Modus Operandi, while also pursuing their own creation activities. New Works helped support their first full length work Vessel which premiered in Fall 2010.
