Tara Cheyenne Performance

Dance meets theatre; they end up necking in the basement.

Tara Cheyenne Performance (TCP) is devoted to the creation and dissemination of highly physical, character-driven dance-theatre works that uniquely blend movement and text.

Artistic Director, Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg creates and performs kinetic theatrical expressions of the ever strange and wonderful human experience. Through exquisitely realized characters, inventive choreography, a healthy dose of comedy, and lashings of tragedy, Friedenberg works to reveal and connect with her audiences. Her desire is for the work to be shared, and a dialogue to develop as a result. Her choreographic craft is the foundation for discovery, expression, and communication.

TCP’s vision is to create works that speak to people on the levels of common human experience, our own comic-tragic behavior, and our lives in movement, gesture and dream. The design of gesture, text, movement, and sound draws lines between meanings and is what Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg continuously strives to achieve in her work.

Relationship with New Works
New Works has played a vital role in the development of Tara Cheyenne Performance within the Canadian dance landscape over a number of years. Originally founded as DanStaBat, Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg became Artistic Director in 2006 and the company has operated as Tara Cheyenne Performance ever since. New Works handles management for the company in addition to playing touring liaison to build stronger relationships with Canadian presenters. Since the Fall of 2008, Tara Cheyenne Performance came on to the New Works roster permanently.
