About this Class:
Join Harmanie for a class where everybody can dance, regardless of ability, shape, or size. We will explore themes of joy and magic through improvised creative movement, and embrace everyone’s unique abilities no matter how big or small.
This class is beginner-friendly and open to youth ages 6 to 16 with or without disabilities but a reminder that all Share Dance workshops are open to anyone up to age 30.
The class will be live on Zoom.
About Harmanie:
Harmanie Rose (she/her) – I believe there’s magic in moving together, whether the movement is structured or you move in a way that feels good to you. All movement can create beautiful dancing. I enjoy working in a group with a diverse cast, which is why I love being a member of the All Bodies Dance Project ensemble. As a dancer I have danced in nature, onstage, and in several short dance films. As a dance teacher, I have taught people with and without disabilities online, all across Canada with the National Access Art Centre (AB), Propeller Dance (ON), Embrace Arts (BC), and currently teaching the Ready Dance Youth Project alongside Danielle Wensley.

Free ONLINE Share Dance Class: Dancing Emotions with Marco Esccer

New Works is inviting you to another FREE Share Dance class ONLINE – Dancing Emotions with Marco Esccer! Children ages 6 to 11 and their families are welcome to join us via Zoom on Saturday December 18 at 3:00pm PDT.
In this movement-based class Marco will create a safe environment for the kids to explore the landscape of their emotions, identifying how they feel and in which parts of their bodies. Through play and dance they’ll experience other ways of expressing themselves. Feeling, Learning and Enjoying the possibilities of their heart.
This is a beginner workshop open to participants of all skill levels.
Although this class is specified for ages 6 to 11 years old, a reminder that all Share Dance workshops are open to children or youth up to age 30.

About Marco:
Marco Esccer is a Mexican dancer, choreographer and teacher interested in reaching our human potential with the mind-body awareness through movement and embodiment of emotions. With a Bachelor in Classical Dance, he graduated from the National School of Classical and Contemporary Dance of México City in 2016. Course the Diploma in Research, experimentation and artistic production: Transits; and the Diploma in Dance Movement Therapy taught by Sensodanzaterapia A.C. He attended the Ballet Intensive Summer Course at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York 2014. He has danced for many companies in Mexico such as Ballet Independiente A.C.,La Infinita Cia, Prodanza México, Convexus ballet by Francisco Rojas, Danza Capital, among others. He created Explor-Arte, a workshop that involves movement and dance therapy based since 2018 in Mexico and Canada. Winner in the First New choreographer competition in 2018. Public Relations of La Infinita Cia (Mexico City) 2019-2020 and Assistant Producer of Bridges Over Walls since 2019. Currently dancer in Coastal City Ballet (Vancouver) season 2019-2022.

New Works is inviting you to another FREE Share Dance class ONLINE – Improvised Movement with Julianne Chapple! Children ages 9 to 15 and their families are welcome to join us via Zoom on Saturday November 27 at 2:00pm PDT.
Improvised Movement is a workshop for participants ages 9 – 15 years old. Students will follow a free form movement score to explore their own creativity and awareness, helping to cultivate their own artistic voices and gain a deeper understanding of the body.
This is a beginner workshop open to participants of all skill levels.

About Julianne:
Julianne Chapple is a performer, choreographer and instructor. She has worked with students of all ages and levels, specializing in contemporary dance, improvisation and partnering skills. Her performance work has been presented across Canada as well as Italy, Ireland, Germany, the USA and the UK.

Free Outdoor Share Dance Class: Hallowe’en Latin Funk with Gustavo Ferman

New Works is inviting you to a special edition Share Dance class – Hallowe’en themed! Join us on Hallow’s Eve, Saturday, October 30th, 2021 at John Hendry Picnic Area, Trout Lake for a FREE Latin Funk Dance Class with Gustavo Ferman!
Latin Funk Dance is a fun mix of Latin dance moves with a splash of Hip Hop. They will learn basic Latin dance moves with a mix of Funky steps to fun Halloween music. Children are welcome to come wearing costumes, or whatever is comfortable to dance in!
Latin Funk Dance Halloween workshop is intended for children ages 5 to 9 years old. This class is beginner friendly and open to all dance experience levels.
A reminder that Share Dance workshops are designed for children or youth up to age 30.
COVID Safety Measures: Participants can wear masks and social distancing will be practiced.
*Please note that in the event of rain, the workshop will take place under the undercover picnic area to stay dry.
About Gustavo:
Professional Dance Coach, Choreographer, Entertainer & Actor with over 30+ years of extensive experience in Dance from Jazz, to Hip-Hop, Funk, Ballroom and Latin, to many Dance Productions and Musical Theater. He is the creator of Latin Funk Dance® a fun high energy Latin fusion dance program for Children and adults, becoming the first and the most popular Latin Fusion dance program in Vancouver.
Gustavo was one the Dancers featured in the 2010 Olympic opening ceremonies and has appeared in numerous television/radio shows, newspaper/magazine articles, has done his own TV dance show in Canada and Europe, created an instructional Latin Funk DVD & performance group called The Corazon Dancers. He also has created his own Motivational dance Presentations for the private sector and corporate world. Gustavo’s training began in San Francisco California at the City College arts program and then to Calgary, Alberta with the Young Canadians school of Performing arts, after finishing the program he worked with many different Dance/Entertainment Companies in the city as a Performer, teacher and eventually a Dance Choreographer and Director.

Free Outdoor Share Dance Class: Intro to BREAKDANCING with Thaiyo Seo

New Works is inviting you to another exciting Share Dance class – outdoors! Join us on Sunday Sept 19, 2021 at Glen Park for a FREE Intro to Breakdancing workshop with Thaiyo Seo!
Breakdancing, also called “breaking” or “b-boying / b-girling”, is an athletic style of streetdance from the early 70’s in New York City.
This break dancing workshop is intended for children ages 5 to 9 years old. They will learn basic break-dancing moves such as Toprock, downrock and freezes and how to express the body to the break of the beat in the music.
This class is beginner friendly and open to all dance experience levels.
A reminder that all Share Dance workshops are designed for children or youth up to age 30.
About Thaiyo:
B-boy Thaiyo is a world-famous b-boy hailing from South Korea. His crew, “Last For One”, came from a small town outside of Seoul, and made a big splash in the mid 2000’s. Most notably, winning the International Battle of the Year 2005 in Germany. Thaiyo’s crew was highlighted in the feature film “Planet B-boy”, that followed the story of each crew that went to Battle of the Year 2005. Thaiyo’s style is based off of his belief that a well-rounded b-boy is a good b-boy. He combines style, power, and foundation to create his dance, and passes it on to his students with great enthusiasm. Since 2010 Thaiyo has been a part of Canada’s top bboy crew, “Now or never crew”.
*Please note that in the event of unfavourable weather conditions (rain or smoke), all registered participants will be notified well in advance to attend this workshop online via Zoom. If we do have to move to a virtual class, a larger space clear of furniture would be preferable.

New Works is inviting you to a very special and exciting Share Dance class – outdoors! Join us on Saturday Aug 21, 2021 at MacLean Park for a FREE Runway workshop with Ralph Escamillan aka Posh Gvasalia.
Runway is more than just something you do on the catwalks of Milan, Paris and New York…Runway is a lifestyle. In this class you will learn from Posh Gvasalia’s tool kit of how to execute the most FAB walk that only you can achieve. Like origami or flower arrangement Runway is about captivating the audience with the nuance of what you bring to the floor. NO DANCE EXPERIENCE REQUIRED – just think of it as your regular everyday walk, but with a splash for opulence!

Free Online Share Dance Class: Intro to Tutting & Finger Tutting with Kevin Li
Date/Time: Saturday, June 26th @ 4:00-4:45pm (PDT)
This workshop is designed for children (ages 10+), youth and families.
Kevin Li offers an introduction to tutting and finger tutting. This class for young beginners teaches foundational movements such as isolation and hinges, as well as concepts such as the grid and scales. Participants will be learning a scale from tutting and a scale from finger tutting, followed by a combo that combines the two together. This class mainly focuses on the upper body and can be done in small spaces.
About Kevin:
Kevin “Shazam” Li is an actor, dancer and choreographer best known for his hand choreography work on the American fantasy TV series The Magicians. Kevin recently worked on the premiere Apple TV series SEE as a movement researcher, choreographer, and coach under the direction of the movement director, Paradox Pollack. Kevin started dancing after moving from Hong Kong to Vancouver in 2009. He fell in love with hip hop and other street/club dance styles such as locking and house. He then joined SOULdiers, a part time training company that focuses on hip hop and other street dance styles. After spending three years with SOULdiers, Kevin went on to focus on tutting and flow arts. He practiced with the Vancouver circus community and explored prop and tutting hybrid dance. He also joined Technicru and started training in animation dance. In 2014, Kevin took a leap of faith and joined Modus Operandi, a Vancouver based contemporary dance training program with zero contemporary dance experience. The directors Tiffany Tregarthen and David Raymond recognized his street dance ability and gave him a chance. The four year professional development program focusing on technical, artistic, choreographic and collaborative skills prepared him for a wide breadth of work in dance and movement. Kevin is interested in all kinds of dance and art, he is especially interested in how different forms, styles, elements, and cultures intersect. He would like to continue exploring and bridging different forms, different cultures and their communities.

About Harmanie:
Harmanie Rose is a disabled dance artist, facilitator, and choreographer with the award-winning All Bodies Dance Project in Vancouver, BC, Canada as well as a member of the InterpenDance Collective. Harmanie is curious about how the disabled lens can enhance and provide clarity about the bodies and space we inhabit. In addition to studying with internationally renowned companies, Candoco Dance Company (UK) and Axis Dance (US), Harmanie has worked with critically acclaimed dance artist Alice Sheppard in her film Inclinations.

About Marco:
Marco Esccer is a mexican dancer, choreographer and teacher interested in the development of dance through the mind, body, and spirit connection. He started his professional career in the National School of Classical and Contemporary Dance in México City (2011-2016). Marco began dancing in contemporary companies in CDMX such as Ballet Independiente Cia (2015-2016), La Infinita Cia (2016), Convexus Ballet (2017) and Danza Capital (2018-2019) touring around Mexico and internationally (Ecuador). While dancing contemporary he became interested in the psychological aspect of movement and took a certification course in Dance Movement Therapy in Sensodanzaterapia A.C.(2016) and a Certification in Research, experimentation and artistic production: Transits (2017). As a Choreographer he was Winner in the First New choreographer of Mexico competition (2018) and has choreographed for dance films, musical videos, and short films. He created the workshop “Explor-Arte Movement Exploration Workshop” which been shared internationally with dancers and non-dancers leading into ways of connecting deep emotions with movement. Currently a dancer in Coastal City Ballet (Vancouver) and taking international certifications on Dance Movement Therapy, Mental Application Method and Yoga.

About Thaiyo:
Born in the small town of Jeonju, South Korea, Thaiyo is a world-famous b-boy, now a Vancouver-based artist. Sunday November 22 5pm PST: Community Outreach Workshop with Dancers of Damelahamid
In connection to the Dancers of Damelahamid performance, we will be hosting a live-streamed workshop through the Zoom platform. The workshop is movement based with discussion on the cultural significance of the movement techniques as well as the importance of story in the dance form and will be led by Margaret Grenier, Andrew Grenier and Raven Grenier. Participants are asked to dress comfortably and wear moccasins or bare feet. All levels of experience are welcome. Elementary school age. Open to children from all backgrounds – families welcome to participate.
