This past spring, I was invited by New Works to collaborate with dance artist and staff member Marco Esccer, in working with members of the Rainbow Refugee Society. The intention was to create a dance that signified their journey and to present this performance at the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) event, hosted annually by Rainbow Refugee.
Thank you for Applying to New Works' Call for Applications 2025-26!
In December 2024 we opened our call for applications to our annual summer series All Over The Map on Granville Island (8 spots), Studio and Theatre Residencies (3 spots), and our Summer Production Internship (1 spot). Over the next month we received 60+ applications, about 5x what we have resource to support! Thank you once again to every artist who took the time to apply; the Programming Staff Team and Program Advisory Committee carefully read and considered every application and appreciated the opportunity to get to know you and your work a little bit better. We always wrap up this process feeling excited, inspired, and bittersweet that we're not able to support more applicants.
Insights into France-Canada creative exchange: Since 2022, New Works has been supporting an international artistic collaboration project, initiated by Compagnie KHOR/Khoudia Touré (France/Senegal) with Out Innerspace Dance Theatre (Vancouver). Vancouver-based Alyssa (Lyzah) Favero shares their experience as a dance artist engaged in the most recent phase of this project – December, 2024.

Mark your calendars; there is something exciting for everyone coming up this season!
Last year we celebrated these relationships with special 30th anniversary programming. As we enter our fourth decade, the 24-25 season celebrates old friends, like Montreal based Tentacle Tribe and the Cultch – a throwback to our last presentation before the pandemic struck; and it marks the beginning of new associations as we support a world premiere from contemporary Kathak artist Gaurav Bhatti. Plus a host of residencies, studio showings, and other presentations – both familiar and fresh!
