NW Spotlight | A Reflection on New Works Cohort 2025 by Paper Rabbits

NW Spotlight | Pop Up Dances reflections by Jhoely Triana

For this month’s New Works Spotlight, we turn to flamenco artist and choreographer Jhoely Triana, whose work Arboles brings flamenco into the soaring architecture of the Vancouver Public Library as part of Pop Up Dances Festival 2025. Adapting a form often rooted in intimate tablaos to an unconventional, public setting, Jhoely and her collaborators will share Arboles with Pop Up audiences on Friday, September 19 at 12pm.

2025-26 Season Announcement

New Works’ 32nd season features an exciting mix of new and returning offerings, with more artist residencies, more partnerships, and new community programs in the mix. Throughout the season, we continue to strive to support current and urgent dance artist needs across our sector while keeping an eye to the future. We’re immensely excited to work with the below roster of artists, and look forward to the many new artist relationships and organizational collaborations we build along the way. To artists, audiences, and collaborators; dive in and join us this season!

NW Spotlight | danielle Mackenzie Long reflects on NWXR

"I have been tending to a growing self-taught digital practice under the umbrella of extended reality for the past two and a half years. The expansive possibilities of what movement can be when it is shared through technological applications has been a driving curiosity of mine since this still recent beginning. I wanted to learn more about motion capture because focusing all my energy towards live movement was not satisfying enough at the time.
