Do you have an idea for a dance project that will benefit underserved young people in Metro Vancouver? We want to hear from you! We are offering $1000 commissions for emerging dance artists to create & develop their own Share Dance projects between May-July 2021.
Info Session: February 26th at 12pm via Zoom
Deadline for applications: March 17th, 2021
We’re looking for professional dance facilitators in a range of dance styles! This is an on-call position from April 2021 to June 2022. Apply by: March 3rd, 2021
2021 cohort participants: Jhoely Triana, Ne.Sans Opera and Dance (Idan Cohen), Tamar Zehava Tabori, Stephanie Cyr, Joshua Ongcol, Kayla De Vos, Kelly McInnes, Lily Cryan, CAMP (Brenna Metzmeier, Sarah Formosa, Ted Littlemore, Isak Enquist, Eowynn Enquist) and VD/CM Productions (Kay Huang Crossmaneuver & Virginia Duivenvoorden).
The New Works Cohort Pilot Program is a mentorship and coaching program. The 10 participants will have the opportunity to create individual learning strategies with the support of Kristina Lemieux and Julie Mamias. At the same time, the cohort will have access to workshops and peer learning sessions. By learning from each other’s experiences, the participants will gain sustainable skills and knowledge over the course of 6 months (from February to July 2021).
Introducing a new initiative: Peer to Peer Dance Exchange, a bi-weekly online drop-in discussion. These meetings will touch on a broad range of topics and are geared towards dance artists and members of the dance community who would like to connect with each other (and with us at New Works!)
These meetings will be facilitated by a member of the New Works team who can share their knowledge with the group, but these will not be workshops (sorry, no snazzy powerpoint). This Peer to Peer Dance Exchange is an opportunity to share ideas with others, brainstorm and connect with people!
On Wednesday February 10th from 1-2pm, we’ll have our first session and the topic we will chat about is the upcoming BC Arts Council “Project Assistance: Pivot for Individuals” grant. It will be facilitated by our Development and Artist Support Manager Katheryn Peterson. You can drop-in at any time and stay for as long as you’d like. Come ask your questions & brainstorm with other people who might be working on this grant. Let’s help each other out!
We’ll be doing another grant clinic soon, in time for the April grant deadlines for the Canada Arts Council. You’ll be able to sign up to get one on one support for your grant application. Keep an eye out for that announcement!
