About She and the Other(s)

This solo piece combines theater and dance, featuring performer Chi Long (of Vietnamese origin, born in Australia and now living in Canada) in an autofiction that intertwines lived, fictional, and borrowed stories. Created by choreographer Élodie Lombardo in collaboration with Chi Long, it explores the mechanisms of identity construction and transmission, invisible memories, our composite identities, and our relationships to territories, physical or imaginary.

Using intimacy to transcend it, the piece questions a Quebec identity in the face of migration issues and invites us to reconsider each being in their singularity and universality, while reflecting on society through our individual stories and collective traumas.

Despite the intensity of the narrative, the play reflects Chi Long: fresh, surprising, and disconcerting. With perfect mastery of her art, she delivers a powerful solo performance, combining just the right amount of humor and sensitivity.

About the Artists

Élodie Lombardo

The artistic approach of Élodie Lombardo (cie les soeurs Schmutt) is rooted in a theatricalization of dance, which she develops through an interrelational dynamic with other mediums (theatre, live music, video, and visual arts). In doing so, she fosters connections between different disciplines, locations, communities, artists, and cultures, with the goal of creating unique research contexts every time that question identity and human relationships. Collaborative spirit and intercultural exchange are two dimensions that nourish and stimulate her choreographic work.

While she does present proscenium/stage performances, Élodie is particularly fond of collaborative research processes, non-traditional spaces, and collective experiences. She offers diverse modes of presentation in order to connect with new audiences and take dance off the beaten path. She interrogates the discipline by proposing both multidisciplinary and intimate projects that question the performance space, theatrical conventions, and political and societal engagement.

Chi Long

Born in Australia to Vietnamese parents, Chi Long moved to Montreal in 1990 and joined the O Vertigo company in 1991, later becoming a member of Compagnie Marie Chouinard from 2002 to 2008. A foundational performer in the Montreal dance landscape, Chi Long continues to venture into freelance work with numerous artists and companies, diving with boldness and generosity into projects that push her far beyond her comfort zone.
