Meet Perelandra Waddle
My name is Perelandra Waddle, and I am the founder and creative director of ᐋᐧᐸᓇᒐᐦᑯᐢ artist collective. ᐋᐧᐸᓇᒐᐦᑯᐢ is a BIPOC interdisciplinary non-profit art collective focused on uplifting emerging artists of colour in Vancouver. I decided to create my own collective when I graduated from SFU Dance because I wanted to choreograph big, interesting and beautiful productions but I didn't have any resources or any way to do that on my own. It occured to me that many people like me probably also have this challenge so I reached out to fellow BIPOC and Queer artists and asked them if we could work together. I'm very proud of the work we have created so far and honoured to get to work with them all. It is my hope that in the future we can produce other works choreographed or directed by other collective members as we grow and we are always looking for more collaborators.

About the work
During this Emerging Artist Studio Support we are working on crafting the third stage of The Perelandra Project. This show is a rough feminist/decolonial adaptation of CS Lewis's novel Perelandra. This piece grapples with questions about Christian Aesthetics and Theology and how they have impacted settler-colonialism and Indigenous women's identity today. It is a multi-media piece and very collaborative. At the moment we have about 7 dancers, two musicians and one non-dancing actor. Other media involved in the work include animation, original costume, set design, stage fighting and poetry. We are transitioning from a creative exploration stage to a more serious performance ready time. I have casted the show and am building the outline of the piece. So far it is looking like the final project will be under just 2 hours including an intermission. Its my first time building, choreographing and directing a show of this scale so I'm very honoured to have been given support like this.

I'm including an image created by my collaborator who's dancing in the show and our animator. This image is her interpretation of Perelandra and will be projected as our backdrop as well as some dance images from our most recent showing with the Re-Centering Margins Creative Residency and a group photo captured by fellow 2Spirit Métis photographer Yarrow.

Among a competitive pool of applications, Perelandra was awarded Emerging Artist Studio Support space at New Works within the 2025-26 season. New Works strives to build process-focused artist-lead residency space that is responsive to the creative’s need.
A New Works residency is a safe space for creative risk taking.
This Emerging Artist Studio Support at Q7 is in partnership with Out Innerspace.
