Meet Jason Wu Kitikul
Jason Wu Kitikul is a British Columbia-based Canadian professional artist and creative technologist with seven years of experience in interactive digital art and TouchDesigner. He holds a B.A. in Visual Arts from the University of British Columbia and a Diploma of Motion Picture Arts from Capilano University. Jason’s work primarily investigates the complex relationship between users and technology. His practice focuses on participatory design and interactive installations that transform spectators into active participants. Jason is dedicated to exploring how technology can enhance storytelling and community connection through movement-responsive computation and real-time generative visuals.
During the NWXR Summer Residency (August 6–8, 2026), the focus will be on the technical and artistic integration of Neural Genesis: Chaotic Embodiment. Day 1 will focus on Calibration & Mapping, specifically calibrating the Kinect V2 to the Chimerik Art Space and the transparent projection surface provided by the residency. Day 2 will be dedicated to Chaotic Iteration, testing narrative choreography with the established visual and motion capture systems. The residency will culminate on Day 3 with a Studio Showing, witnessing the "Neural Genesis" react to live performance and potentially exploring how audience proximity can trigger additional digital "connections".
About the work
"Neural Genesis: Chaotic Embodiment" is an interdisciplinary performance exploring the human nervous system in environments exposed to unpredictable and chaotic factors. The project utilizes a Kinect V2 sensor and TouchDesigner to track a dancer’s movements in real-time, generating a "digital nervous system" that reacts to their physical state. The core narrative follows a body attempting to find calm and serenity while "surviving" a hostile digital landscape. High-velocity movements trigger high-frequency surrealism and brightness, while slow, grounded gestures modulate the spatial openness of the digital architecture. This work investigates the relationship between human impulse and algorithmic response, turning the performer into a medium that shapes a living digital mural.
