NWXR 2022-23

This season of XR built upon the pilot season in new and exciting ways, supporting 4 artists in residence and bringing together a new community of mentors and partners. Season participants gathered at Emily Carr University of Art + Design on March 30, 2023 to celebrate and witness a public work-in-progress sharing with the larger community. This season also saw a continuing pilot of the XR Audience in Residence project.

NWXR 2022-23 resourced the development of up to 4 XR projects with skills building workshops, mentorship with senior artists, consultation with technologists, access to gear and studio space, and XR resource sharing. Project leaders Gemma Crowe and Sierra Megas built a focus on process, research, and capacity building. Participants had the opportunity to work closely with the New Works team and XR mentors to develop their project, while engaging in one-on-one consultations with New Work’s XR network (including the New Works team, mentors, workshop facilitators and technologists), and learning alongside peer artists. Over the course of an 8 week residency participants gained sustainable skills and knowledge in support of their unique XR project interest.
