Our presentation series kicks off this summer with the return of All Over The Map over two weekends (July 24 & 26, August 14 & 16) held at two iconic open-air locations: Granville Island’s Pincic Pavillion & the Vancouver Public Library’s Rooftop Garden. This series celebrates the diverse cultures and styles of the Vancouver scene: from contemporary movement and street dance, to the beautiful storytelling of Kathak, and Bharatantayam, and even juggling! 

During the summer, New Works is excited to support artists in our summer studio residencies. In partnership with Out Innerspace, we are hosting Dr T'uy't'tanat-Cease Wyss and Salomé Nieto & elika mojtabaei مجتبایی الیکا, with studio residencies to support their artist-led process to create new performance projects and support artistic research. Be sure to read about our artists in residence this summer to learn more about their work and practice. 

Jason Wu Kitikul is the inaugural NWXR Summer Residency Artist - in a newly launched program. NWXR artists are invited to dive into dedicated time and space to explore a new project or new facet of their dance+technology practice. Presented in partnership with Chimerik 似不像, this residency is envisioned as an opportunity for an emerging embodied and new technology artist to push the boundaries of their practice, take creative risks, and explore the  process of development. 

New Works is thrilled to bring back Pop Up Dances Festival (September 18-19) to the Central Library, for two spectacular days of live dance and movement in unexpected spaces. Discover performances in plazas, through the library floors, all the way up to the beautiful rooftop garden.

As the Fall arrives, we head back into the theatre in collaboration with our longstanding partner, the Roundhouse Community Centre. The 2026/27 season will see New Works support two artists with Theatre Residencies and performances: Alexa Solveig Mardon with a new stunning performance entitled, good loser on November 20-21, and Alexandra Caprara, inviting audiences to a dream-tech performance entitled gently divine, violently disorienting (GDVD) presenting a premiere performance in March 2027.

As part of each Theatre Residency, audiences are invited to join artists in the space for Residency Reflections; a unique moment of reflection that welcomes the community into the creative process. Residency Reflection’s look different for each artist - a workshop, studio showing, artist talk, or class - there are many exciting ways to engage in each artist's unique creative process this fall; keep an eye on our website as more details and calls to sign up are announced. 

This season, we’ve introduced the New Works Ticket Pack 2026/27, which gives access to discounted tickets to two upcoming World Premieres! With support from the Roundhouse Community Centre, New Works is excited to present two new full-length works, and as a Ticket Pack holder, you’ll get a discounted complimentary ticket to each performance. 

Winter will find New Works kicking off programs, partnerships, and calls to the community. Keep a close eye on our winter newsletters as our annual 5-month mentorship program, Cohort Program, opens for expressions of interest. Around this time our Call for Applications also goes live, featuring opportunities to perform, be an Artist in Residence, and intern with us. And, our now annual, NWXR program will begin. NWXR, presented in partnership with interplay_ and Chimerik 似不像  holds space for movement artists to explore embodied technology within their creative practice. 

In January, New Works will partner again with PuSh International Performing Arts Festival to present She and the Other(s) by Les Soeurs Schmutt (January 22-23) at the Alliance Française Theatre. Audiences wouldn’t want to miss this vibrant, dancing, musical, speaking body, where lived, fabricated, or borrowed stories intertwine. 

In March, we will co-present the premiere of Alexandra Caprara’s gently divine, violently disorientating (March 24-25) at The Roundhouse Community Centre. With support from Electric Company Theatre and Plastic Orchid Factory, you don’t want to miss out on this performance.

With the success of last season, we are excited to announce the return of the Leadership in Practice Symposium. This full day brings dance teachers and leaders together for a deepened symposium of professional learning and exchange.

In parallel, our community and artist support programs continue throughout the year including Share Dance, Help Desk, Internships and Management Support. We are privileged to collaborate with so many exceptional artists, and are passionate about supporting the wider creative ecosystem of BC Dance.
